Kogarah Public School's method for learning from home

Firstly, to ensure you are receiving the latest updates from the school and your child's teachers, it is important that you have downloaded both the Kogarah Public School Enews and ClassDojo app on your phone or tablet. Posts will be made across the week to inform you of happenings in the school and provide resources to support learning.

Next, to support your child during these times, it is important that families utilise technology at home. This can either be done on a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop. The following arrangements are currently in place, depending on what Year your child is in.

Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2

  • Posts will be made regularly on ClassDojo by a teacher, including a weekly overview posted on Monday.
  • Students and parents/carers read the task and then they complete it in potentially one of the following ways:
    • writing a sentence/story in a work book or on a piece of paper, taking a photo of it, and uploading it to their portfolio
    • recording a video of a maths strategy where the student is completing the work out loud, and uploading it to their portfolio
    • taking a picture of a piece of work, or recording a video of the student doing something.
  • Only tasks highlighted in the weekly overview need to be uploaded, which can be accessed in the Student Portfolio.
  • Acknowledgement and some comments or feedback will be provided:
    • the work will be approved and may be "liked", showing that the teacher has seen the work
    • a comment will be left on the piece of work asking for clarification, praise, or a request to resubmit
    • work can be completed in the work book provided by the school.

Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

  • Posts will be made daily on Google Classroom by a teacher. Some posts may ask you to refer to a ClassDojo post.
  • Students read the task and then complete it in potentially one of the following ways:
    • responding to a question, or series of questions, in a Google Docs document and turning it in
    • answering questions in a Google Sheets document and turning it in
    • completing questions in a Google Forms survey and turning it in.
  • Acknowledgement and some comments or feedback will be provided:
    • the work will be approved and may be "liked", showing that the teacher has seen the work
    • a comment will be left on the piece of work asking for clarification, praise, or a request to resubmit.

If you have questions about how your child should be submitting work, clarification on a task, or if a feature is not working as intended, teachers will be able to respond to these questions in a timely manner via ClassDojo. Please note, questions will primarily be answered during school hours (8:30am - 3:30pm), and any questions received or sent outside of these hours may not be seen until the next school day.

If a student has not posted any work for more than 2 school days in a row, the school will be in contact with you to check-in and ask if you need any assistance with accessing your child's learning.

Finally, we understand that some students will not have access to a device or the internet for online learning. Please, contact the school to discuss non-digital learning from home options for your child. Also note, that worksheets and resources are not required to be printed, but physical packs can be provided for families and collected from the school.

Other recommended apps and resources

Along with the Kogarah Public School Enews and ClassDojo apps, there are other services that will aid in supporting your child at home.

For the G Suite set of apps (Drive, Classroom, Docs, Sheets, and Slides) you must ensure your child is signed in. In the event you have ever signed into a Google-related service on a shared tablet or computer with your personal email, Google may look at that cookie and automatically sign you in. This will result in your child being unable to log in or access work. Add another account and use your child's student email (usually follows the firstname.lastname[any numbers]@education.nsw.gov.au format) to correctly access allocated tasks.
